No, we don’t use Nano Silver in/on our products. The technology we use is a polyamide fiber coated in pure Silver, which makes it permanent. The Silver will not end up in water, or on your skin. It is perfectly safe to wear.
It has been reported that silver nanoparticles can bind to proteins and enzymes in mammalian cells. These silver nanoparticles can make adhesive interactions with cellular membranes and produce highly reactive and toxic radicals like reactive oxygen species, which will cause inflammation and destroy cells like mitochondria. Subsequently they produce apoptogenic factors that cause cell death and necrosis in the cellular environment. Silver nanoparticles can show intensive toxic effects on the mitochondrial function and cell viability and they can produce lytic enzymes which can cause apoptosis and necrosis.
During the extrusion of the polymer the silver ions (mostly use silver salt) will be added to the masterbatch and then integrated in the polymer fiber. The majority of the silver ions will be stuck in core of the fiber. Only a small part of the silver ions will be in the proximity of the polymer surface and be able to perform any microbial activity. The activity of these products diminishes fast as a limited amount of silver ions will be available and there is no tight binding between the silver ions and the polymer.
These products are reusable for a limited amount of time. Mostly after 30 – 60 days or x amount of washes the activity of these products is gone. After that you have just a textile mask.

The Differential Pressure (DP) is a test that measures how easily air is passed from one side of the mask to the other. This indicates how easily the wearer can breathe through the mask, and is in indicated by Delta P. Higher DP indicates air is more difficult to push through. This could result in a “blow-by” effect (escape of air, and contamination from the sides of an improperly work mask), or even incorrect use by the wearer. While not as comfortable, the higher Delta P results in better filtration.
Breathability is the ability to breathe through the material of the mask. Breathability is the difference in pressure across the mask and is reported in millibars (mbar) or Pascals (Pa) or, for an area of mask, over a square centimeter (mbar/cm2 or Pa/cm2). Acceptable breathability of a medical mask should be below 49 Pa/cm2. For non-medical masks, an acceptable pressure difference, over the whole mask, should be below 100 Pa/cm2.

Depending on fabric used, filtration efficiency and breathability can complement or work against one another. Recent data indicate that two non-woven spunbond layers, the same material used for the external layers of disposable medical masks, offer adequate filtration and breathability. Commercial cotton fabric masks are in general very breathable but offer lower filtration.

The Bacterial Filtration Efficiency (BFE) tests face mask filtration material.
The results are expressed in the % of bacteria larger than 3.0µm (microns) that are being filtered by the face mask. The higher the filtration efficiency the more of a barrier provided by the fabric.
Fluid resistance is the ability of the mask’s material to resist the penetration of blood and body fluids. It is a mandatory test for a surgical mask type IIR/3.
PFE (particle filtration efficiency) measures how well a mask filters submicron particles, viruses and bacteria in anticipation that they will be similarly filtered. Mask efficiency increases as the percentage increases.
The Microbial Cleanliness test determines the total number of viable microorganisms on the face mask using an extraction method. The total viable aerobic microbial count and fungal enumeration is determined. Based on the weight of the mask, the results are reported as the total bioburden per gram tested for each mask. According to EN 14683, in order to meet the performance requirements of Type I, Type II, and Type IIR, the bioburden of the face mask shall be ≤ 30 cfu/g.
